Independent Reading Folders

Hello boys and girls! We are going to begin writing our books on this blog. Remember, everything you write will be seen by your classmates, your teacher and anyone around the world! I want you to respond to your daily reading assignment using this blog. Below you will find a description of each activity. Please, ask if you have questions! I will be checking this often and responding to what you have to say!

1. C-S-P
Characters, Setting, Problem -- When you write about the characters, setting and problem, you will give me AT LEAST three sentences.
1. Tell me who the main characters are (the most important characters in the chapter).
2. Tell me where the setting is (where the chapter takes place)
3. Tell me what the problem or conflict is in the chapter.


2. Summary-- Give me the most important details in the chapter.

3. Vocabulary -- EVERYONE MUST DO THIS EVERYDAY!!
1. Pick 2 words you do not understand or you think are interesting.
2. Write down the page number the word is on.
3. Write the sentence the word is in.
4. Look up the word in the dictionary and then write your own sentence using the word.

4. Questions -- Write 3 quetions your have about the chapter your read today.
Question starters: Why did...
I wonder why...
Do you think....
How did.....

5. Prediction -- Make a prediction about what you think will happen next.


6. Inference -- Write three sentences to make your inference.
1. What you know from the chapter.
2. What your background knowledge is.
3. What your inference is.
REMEMBER -- YOUR INFERENCE IS USUALLY VERY SIMILIAR TO YOUR BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE.
